- Turn the "ON/OFF" switch to the "ON" position.
- Close the choke (if the engine is cold).
- Open the throttle to approximately 1/2 way.
- Pull the starter rope until the unit starts.
- Once the motor starts, open the choke.
- Once you're ready to compact, move the throttle to the wide open position.
- Allow unit to pull itself forward.
- When finished, idle machine down.
- Turn the switch to the "OFF" position to stop the engine.

- Check fuel level.
- Ensure all starting procedures have been followed (i.e. choke on, switch on, etc.).
- Unit may be flooded, let sit for 10 minutes then try starting again.
- Check the oil level.
