- To ensure that a particular area such as a concrete floor is flat.
- Used to determine horizontal elevation ( cut or fill ).
- Used to check a constant level grade.
- When working over 4' below grade, always properly support the trench walls.
- Be aware of your working environment, looking through an instrument scope will inhibit natural site lines.
- 18 x, magnification.
- Adjustable cross-hairs for various light conditions.
- Built-in compensator to ensure instrument is properly leveled.
- +/- 5mm accuracy over a 1 KM, double run distance.
- Set unit on a domed tripod.
- Leave setting screw loose and move the level until the bubble is inside the Cat's Eye, the compensator will fine tune the level for you.
- Tighten setting screw from the tripod to the instrument when the bubble is centered.
- The largest adjustment knob on the right hand side of the level is used for the focus adjustments.
- The intensity of the cross-hairs can be adjusted by turning the eyepiece.
- The small adjusting screw on the right hand side is used to slowly rotate the level horizontally.

- Do a "Peg Board Test" as follows:
1. Set-up and level unit in the middle of large room.
2. Put a distance rod or a tape measure on two opposing walls.
3. Take the reading off each stick and record them as points (A1 and B1).
4. Move the level closer to one of the walls and level it again.
