- Place the intake and discharge hoses in their respective places.
- Put the on/off switch in the on position.
- Turn the choke and the gas line on.
- Prime pump housing as well as intake hose.
- Pull the cord until the engine rolls over.

- Pull the cord until the engine begins to run.
- Let the pump run until the water has been completely displaced.

- Ensure the hose is not kinked.
- Ensure the motor is running and there is still gas and oil in the machine.
- Ensure intake hose strainer is not plugged with debris.
- Ensure all hoses have rubber washer in place.
- Ensure the hose / pump has not lost it's prime.
- Be sure the hose has been placed deep enough in the water.
- Ensure the hose is not kinked.
